Last week here on Used Car Face-Off we featured three “pick up trucks” with underpinnings from commonplace minivans and SUVs. Subaru was another company to do the same in this period, although its Baja was far from alone in the AWD Legacy family. In addition to the awkward little BRAT successor, the Legacy also spawned the Outback wagon and sedan. Would you like your five seater with a boot, a hatch, or a bed?

This little trucklet which is basically an Outback wagon sans lid has approximately 135K reported miles and has been in two minor accidents which were bodywork only. Does the interesting nature of this BRAT decedent as well as its relative cleanliness appeal to you the most?

Going to the least practical of the Outback range from the most, here we have the sedan model which was basically a Legacy with a lift kit and body cladding. With only 92K miles and a very clean leather interior, does this pristine mahogany on beige four door appeal to you most?

Finally we have a proper Outback wagon! One of the original cars to begin the lifted wagon craze, this example is particularly clean with only 100K under its belt and a very posh ‘wood’, tan leather, and double sunroof interior. Is the wagon argument the strongest here?

No restraint on that fake wood on the wagon.

Indeed, but it somewhat goes with the green exterior. More so than the wood and mahogany sedan, but the metallic interior arguably blends best on the Baja.

I mean, I think the Baja looks better, and has the more appropriate interior, but the wagon has more utility, bottom line.

I had a baja. Great car, but a 4 seater.

I always liked the look of the sedan, for no good reason. I’ll have that one.

Oops, haha, I had a sneaking suspicion that was the case...
